Alan Hodgson

Born in Paeroa, New Zealand, Alan has evolved his style of painting to geometric abstractionism. He is constantly exploring the mixing of colour and texture; and the juxtaposition of shapes to create striking canvasses. His compositions are tight, using a small range of geometric shapes to depict his view of the world. A fascination with structures has resulted in his architectonic style of painting.

“I paint every day, the need to be expressive by creating visual art is pretty much an impulse for me. I don’t try to explain my paintings, the value of abstract art is how it stimulates and pushes the viewer”.

He now lives—and has his studio—in New Plymouth.
